Hi everyone!
In the United States, the self-installed alarm system is very often SimpliSafe. It’s not really a product we come across here, but if you’re across the Atlantic (or know someone who hesitates to switch to Gladys because of their alarm), here it is.
What it does
- The alarm: disarmed, home armed, away armed, entry and exit delays, alarm in progress.
- The base: online, mains, backup battery, alerts.
- Each sensor: opening, motion, glass break, smoke, CO, leak, freeze, with low battery and online.
- The Smart Lock: locking, state, batteries.
- The SimpliCams and the Video Doorbell Pro: the image of the last motion or the last ring, and the doorbell.
- All in real-time.
- Three triggers: « Alarm triggered » (intrusion, fire, CO, water, freeze, panic), « Armed or disarmed » (with the origin and the name of the code used) and « Doorbell pressed ».
- An « Arm or disarm » action and a widget with the state and arming buttons.
- In French, English, German and Spanish.
Arming from Gladys is disabled by default, as is unlocking the lock. You choose in the configuration: state only, arm only, or arm and disarm. The alarm state is never controllable by a voice assistant, and disarming from the widget requires confirmation.
The nice thing
Alarm triggered → all lights on and the camera image sent by message
Away armed → heating and lights off
Someone rings → the doorbell image on the phone
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-simplisafe: SimpliSafe alarm systems, sensors and locks for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- Enable two-step verification on your SimpliSafe account (in the app): without it, SimpliSafe never gives the login code.
- From a computer with Chrome or Edge, click on Connect, open the developer tools (F12, Console tab), then log in to the SimpliSafe page.
- Copy the
com.simplisafe.mobile://…address that appears in red in the console, and paste it into the « Finish connection » action. - Choose the level of arming allowed, then add your devices in the Discovery tab.
The documentation details the maneuver. It only needs to be done once, and Gladys never sees your password.
Honest small reservations
- Only SimpliSafe 3 systems (sold since 2018). Remote arming and disarming requires a SimpliSafe subscription that allows it.
- The connection is a bit acrobatic, as SimpliSafe does not offer any other method.
- No live video, siren, code management or settings. The latest generation cameras only display the image of their events.
- SimpliSafe does not keep a state for motion and glass break detectors: they only go to « detected » for a minute, during an alarm.
- Developed without a SimpliSafe alarm. I have verified from my home that the connection to the real service goes as far as the proper refusal of a fake account, but nothing has run on a real system: your feedback is precious.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with SimpliSafe.
