Hi everyone!
Bose has announced the shutdown of the SoundTouch cloud. No need to panic for your speakers: their local API, on the other hand, continues to work. They are therefore coming to Gladys, 100% local, without an account or cloud, so that the living room SoundTouch doesn’t end up as an expensive paperweight.
What it does
- Automatic discovery of the speakers, or their IP address entered manually.
- One speaker = one Gladys music player:
- play, pause, previous, next, volume;
- on/standby, mute;
- the source: AUX, Bluetooth, or a preset called by its name;
- the current title and artist, and the multi-room group.
- Real-time updates: a change made on the speaker, the remote control, or the app arrives in Gladys in less than a second.
- A « SoundTouch Player » widget: what’s playing, the volume, the playback buttons, and the six presets.
- In scenes: « Play a preset », « Play an audio address » (in http) and a trigger « SoundTouch preset launched », which ignores presets launched by Gladys itself so that a scene doesn’t loop.
- For the entire SoundTouch range in Wi-Fi or Ethernet (10, 20, 30, 300, Wave, Lifestyle…).
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
A small but important detail: presets are replayed without using the speaker’s button, because a long press on this button overrides the preset.
The cool thing
7 a.m. → preset 1 in the bedroom, at volume 15, as an alarm
The living room preset 6 becomes a « movie night » button → dimmed lights and closed shutters
The last person leaves the house → all speakers turn off
Installation
Gladys 5.2 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-soundtouch: Bose SoundTouch speakers (local API) for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- Discovery tab: your speakers appear automatically. Otherwise, enter their IP address in the configuration.
- Add them to Gladys.
Honest small reservations
- No Gladys voice announcements: they arrive via https, and the speakers only read http.
- Multi-room groups are read-only, neither created nor modified.
- Only AUX and Bluetooth inputs are selectable; the HDMI/TV inputs of the Lifestyle and SoundTouch 300 are displayed as « Other ».
- « Play an audio address » depends on the speaker’s UPnP player, which may not exist on all models.
- Developed without a speaker. It’s local, so nothing could be verified on a real SoundTouch: everything was tested against a fake speaker that replays real recorded responses. If you have one, tell me the model in your feedback, especially for real-time and « Play an audio address ».
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Bose.
