External integration - Amazon Echo (make Gladys talk on your Echo)

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

It was requested under a YouTube video by Gladys: “making your Echo Dot speak in automations is part of the basics to signal anything.” And it was the 3rd on @pierre-gilles’ list. So here it is Amazon Echo: Gladys speaking through your Echo :speaker_high_volume:

This is the opposite of Gladys’ Alexa integration: here, it’s no longer you speaking to Gladys via Alexa, but Gladys speaking through your Echo.

What it does

  • :speaker_high_volume: Each Echo becomes a device in Gladys (Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Studio, Echo Spot, multi-room groups, and speakers with built-in Alexa), with volume, Do Not Disturb, play/pause/previous/next, and current title.
  • :speaking_head: A scene action « Make an Echo Speak »: one or more Echo at once, in simple speech or in announcement (with the little chime), at a chosen volume, which returns to its previous level on its own.
  • :robot: « Launch an Alexa Routine » from a scene, and « Echo: Do Not Disturb ».
  • :puzzle_piece: A « Echo Player » widget: title, artist, volume, and buttons.
  • In French, English, German, and Spanish, like the others

The cool part

Garage door open for 10 minutes → « The garage door has been left open » on the kitchen Echo :door:
Washing machine finished → announcement on all the Echoes in the house :basket:
10 p.m. → Do Not Disturb on the bedroom Echo :crescent_moon:

Installation

:warning: Gladys 5.1 minimum, and a computer for the connection (copying an address on mobile is a nightmare).

:light_bulb: It will arrive in the store later today. In a hurry? Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - guim31/gladys-amazon-echo: Make your Amazon Echo speak, announce and play from Gladys Assistant scenes (Alexa) · GitHub

The connection to Amazon is done only once, and Gladys never sees your password: you log in on the real Amazon page.

  1. In the configuration, choose your Amazon site (amazon.fr, amazon.de…) and save.
  2. Click on Connect: the Amazon login page opens in a new tab. Log in, with the verification code if you have one.
  3. Amazon then displays an empty or « not found » page. That’s normal! Copy the full address of this page (it starts with https://www.amazon.fr/ap/maplanding?…).
  4. Go back to Gladys and paste it into Complete the Connection, within the following minutes (the code expires quickly).
  5. Discovery tab: add your Echoes.

To undo everything, Disconnect from Amazon removes Gladys’ credentials and removes the device from your Amazon account.

Honest small reservations

  • :warning: Beta, developed without the hardware: I don’t have any Echo at home. Everything was tested on simulated responses, not on a real account. The connection to Amazon is the part to validate first.
  • Amazon has no official API for this (Home Assistant does the same): it can break the day Amazon changes its pages. I will correct it as soon as possible.
  • The heart action « Broadcast a Notification » is also connected, but it requires Gladys Plus and I don’t know yet if the Echoes accept its audio format. For a sure result, take « Make an Echo Speak ».
  • No mute (Amazon doesn’t offer it), no triggers for now, and a maximum of 1,000 characters per message.

If you have Echoes, I’m interested in your feedback, even a simple « it connects » or « it speaks » with the model :folded_hands: olivierWOD, who requested it on YouTube: if you’re passing by, this is for you!

Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code :robot:. Independent project, not affiliated with Amazon.

Hi @guim31! Amazing, great work and super fast!!

In terms of naming/cover for the integration, could you make something more explicit to make it clear that this isn’t the Alexa integration that allows controlling Gladys from Alexa, but the opposite?

I’m checking it out!

@pierre-gilles thanks! And well spotted, that was misleading  It’s fixed in 1.0.2:

  • New name: Echo Media Player, a nod to « Alexa Media Player » that Home Assistant users know, but without the word Alexa;
  • New cover, without the Alexa logo: Gladys sends data to the Echo, and it’s the Echo that emits the sound;
  • a description that explains the purpose from the first line (« Gladys makes your Echo speak… »), in all 4 languages;
  • and at the top of the doc and the README: « Gladys → Echo », not to be confused with the Amazon Alexa integration of Gladys Plus.

I also renamed this topic and updated the first message. Let me know if that’s clear enough!

Nickel :ok_hand: That’s much better

Hello @guim31,

tfirst of all, thank you for this integration (and the others)…

I tested it at home, but I’m still stuck at the login (click on login), because it redirects me to a different address than the one mentioned:

https://www.amazon.fr/ap/register?… (with a lot of parameters, I don’t know if it’s a good idea to post them…)

@b3n.0 thanks for testing so quickly :folded_hands: And above all, don’t post these parameters: they contain a device identifier specific to your attempt.

You weren’t wrong, it was the integration that was sending you to the wrong place. I think you ended up on an Amazon page „Are you looking for something?“. I reproduced it: Amazon only serves the Alexa login page on amazon.com (in French if you ask it to), even for an amazon.fr account. The integration was sending you to amazon.fr, where this page doesn’t exist. With the correct address, the Alexa login form appears properly.

The fix is in progress, I’ll let you know as soon as 1.0.3 is out. The steps to follow will remain the same, except that the login page will be on amazon.com and the address to copy will start with https://www.amazon.com/ap/maplanding?.

@b3n.0 it’s fixed: 1.0.3 (in the store in a few hours, or right now via Install from GitHub with GitHub - guim31/gladys-amazon-echo: Make your Amazon Echo speak, announce and play from Gladys Assistant scenes (Alexa) · GitHub).

I checked in a browser: the Connect button now opens the real Alexa login form (« Welcome… Sign in »), in French.

To try again:

  1. Update the integration, then click Connect again. The page opens on amazon.com: this is normal, even with an amazon.fr account.
  2. Sign in (with the verification code if you have one).
  3. You then arrive on a blank or « not found » page: copy its full address, which starts with https://www.amazon.com/ap/maplanding?.
  4. Paste it into Complete the connection, quickly (the code expires in a few minutes).
  5. Discovery tab: your Echo devices should appear.

Fingers crossed for the rest :crossed_fingers: Let me know how far you get!

Great, this is the feature request I made when I joined Gladys.

Have the ability in a scene to make Alexa say any phrase. To vocally signal an open door, a light left on. Remind of an upcoming recurring event on the agenda, such as the dog’s vaccination.
I put the links of what I found on Jeedom and Home Assistant so that everyone can get an idea of the possibilities of this request.

I will try it out quickly.

Cool, if you can test, I’m in because I don’t have that equipment!

I am connected, my echos have been found. I wanted to test with a small hello in the configuration and I have this return in the log.

[2026-10-12T18:20:49.215Z] [WARN] [amazon-echo] Command failed: /api/behaviors/preview: HTTP 400
[2026-10-12T19:18:23.967Z] [WARN] [amazon-echo] Command failed: /api/behaviors/preview: HTTP 400

@elfedagger brilliant, thank you! :folded_hands: You’re the first to go all the way to the Echo on a real account, and your log gave me the answer.

It was indeed a bug in the integration: when connecting, it kept the wrong Amazon account ID (the account’s one, instead of the one Alexa expects). So Amazon refused all commands sent to the Echo: speech, announcement, volume and routines. Your HTTP 400 was that.

It’s fixed in 1.0.4 (store in a few hours, or right now via Install from GitHub with GitHub - guim31/gladys-amazon-echo: Make your Amazon Echo speak, announce and play from Gladys Assistant scenes (Alexa) · GitHub).

Nothing to redo: no need to reconnect, the integration will search for the correct ID with Amazon on its own. Update, then restart your little hello from the configuration :crossed_fingers:

And if it still doesn’t work, the log will this time give Amazon’s reason next to the error code: paste it here, it will help me a lot. Also tell me which Echo model you have!
