Hi everyone!
In the United States and Canada, the small box that clips into the electrical panel to see what each circuit consumes is often an Emporia Vue. A bit like our Shelly EM or Ecojoko, but circuit by circuit. For those of you who are there, it’s coming to Gladys, connected to energy monitoring.
What it does
- One device per Vue (Vue 2 and Vue 3):
- the power of the whole house and of each circuit (up to 16), with the names from the Emporia app, updated every minute;
- energy indexes, total and per circuit, that Gladys converts into consumption and cost per half-hour;
- in solar: the grid exchange (negative when injecting), import, export, and solar production.
- Emporia outlets: on/off, power, energy.
- Emporia charging stations: connector and charging status, power, energy. On/off and setpoint current only if you allow it in the configuration (disabled by default).
- A widget « Emporia Power »: total, solar, and the 5 circuits consuming the most.
- A trigger « Emporia Device Offline or Back Online » and an action « Emporia Energy of the Day ».
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
The cool thing
Every evening at 9 p.m. → « Today: 23.4 kWh from the grid, 6.1 kWh from solar; leading: the dryer (5.1 kWh) »
The grid exchange goes below −1500 W → we turn on the water heater outlet to take advantage of the surplus
The Vue goes offline → message « check its Wi-Fi »
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum. Contracts and cost calculation require Gladys 5.2.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-emporia: Emporia Vue energy monitors, smart plugs and EV chargers for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- Enter the email and password of your Emporia account.
- Check « Allow charging station control » if you want to control your charging station from Gladys.
- Discovery tab: add your devices. Nothing is read at Emporia for a device you haven’t added.
Honest small reservations
- Cloud only: averages over one minute, and nothing if the Internet or Emporia go down.
- Accounts connected via Google or Apple, or protected by two-factor authentication, are not supported.
- Emporia does not provide meter indexes: I rebuild it from daily totals. It is updated every 5 minutes, not read in the half-hour after midnight, and a stop of more than 31 days loses the previous days.
- An outlet or charging station plugged into an already monitored circuit is counted twice if you keep the default hierarchy in energy monitoring: remember to put it under its circuit.
- Emporia batteries, thermostats, and vehicles are not supported.
- Developed without the hardware. I verified from home that the connection to the real Emporia service goes as far as the proper refusal of a fake account, but nothing has run on a real Vue: your feedback is welcome.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Emporia Energy.
