Hi everyone! ![]()
Heat pump, solar inverter, electric meter on the panel, charging station, automation… So many devices speak Modbus, and until now Gladys couldn’t see them. It’s the « pivot » integration on @pierre-gilles’ list: one integration, dozens of devices. Here’s Modbus TCP, locally.
What it does
- Ready-to-use profiles, without any manual configuration:
- Eastron SDM630 / SDM120 meters (via a Modbus TCP gateway);
- SunSpec inverters and meters: the model is detected automatically, covering many inverters at once (SMA, Fronius, SolarEdge, Kostal…);
- Huawei SUN2000, with its meter and LUNA2000 battery if present;
- Victron GX.
- Custom registers for everything else, one line per measurement, for example:
Heating start: holding 100 int16 scale=0.1 temperature. All data types are supported (16, 32 or 64 bits, floats, bits, word order…). In case of error, the configuration tells you which line is wrong and why. - Energy indexes feed Gladys’ energy tracking.
- Two actions that will save you hours: « Test a read », which displays the raw value and all its possible interpretations, and « Check the configuration ».
- « Device unreachable / back » triggers, and a « Modbus Device » widget.
- RS-485 → TCP gateways (« RTU over TCP ») are supported.
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
Writing is disabled by default. Once allowed in the configuration, only the switches and temperature setpoints you declare yourself are controllable. Writing to the wrong register can mess up an installation: use with caution.
The cool part
Solar production higher than consumption → start the water heater
The heat pump doesn’t respond → notification
The panel meter exceeds 6 kW → cut the charging station
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-modbus: Modbus TCP devices for Gladys Assistant: heat pumps, inverters, meters, chargers, with ready-made device profiles · GitHub
- In the configuration: the device or gateway address, the port (502), the slave identifier, then a profile or your registers.
- Test a read to verify, then the Discovery tab to add the device.
Honest small reservations
- Developed without the hardware: everything was tested against a fake Modbus server filled according to manufacturers’ official tables, not on a real device. Your feedback is precious, especially if you have a heat pump or an inverter on hand

- Direct « serial » Modbus (a USB RS-485 key plugged into the Gladys machine) is not supported: you need a TCP gateway.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with the brands of the profiles.
