Hi everyone!
In the self-hosting series, for those who have a NAS or a home server. I loved setting up Sonarr & Radarr, so I’m continuing with Grocy, the home manager: stock, expiration dates, batteries to recharge, and household chores. This way, you’ll know that the yogurt is expired before opening it.
What it does
- A Grocy device with 10 counters: products soon to expire, past due, expired, below minimum stock; items to buy; household chores for the day and overdue; batteries to recharge; tasks for the day and overdue.
- Two triggers: « A product is about to expire » (soon, past due, expired) and « A household chore is overdue ».
- Actions: consume a product (by name or barcode), add to shopping list, mark a household chore as done, mark a battery as recharged.
- Three widgets: « Consume quickly », « To do today » (with a Done button) and « Shopping » (Add missing items, and an Add… form).
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
The cool part
The robot vacuum returns to its base → « Vacuum » marked as done in Grocy
A product is expired → message to the family: « Throw away the yogurt »
A button near the fridge → « Milk » added to the shopping list
Installation
Gladys 5.2 minimum. (for the Shopping widget form)
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-grocy: Grocy stock, expiry dates, shopping list and chores for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- In Grocy: your username in the top right → Manage API keys → Add, and copy the key. The integration acts on behalf of this user.
- In Gladys: the Grocy address (including subfolder if any) and the key. Adjust if needed the « soon to expire » threshold (5 days) and the shopping list number, then Test the connection.
- Discovery tab: add the Grocy device.
Honest small reservations
- Commands have not been tested on a real Grocy. Reading, yes: from home, I ran the integration against the official Grocy demo (4.7.1), and it reads everything correctly (stock, expirations, household chores, batteries, shopping). Consuming a product or validating a task has only been tested against a mock written based on Grocy’s documentation, and nothing has run in a real Gladys installation. If you have a Grocy, your feedback would be very welcome.
- Only one Grocy, and one shopping list.
- Product and task names are typed manually in scenes, and quantities are whole numbers.
- The Done buttons in the widget act immediately, without confirmation (can be undone from Grocy).
- No recipes, menus, or equipment.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Grocy.
