ISS Overhead — ISS flyovers visible to the naked eye on your dashboard
An external integration that predicts the next naked-eye visible flyovers of the International Space Station above your home and can trigger a scene just before a flyover begins.
What it does
- Dashboard widget : illustration of the ISS, countdown to the next flyover, maximum elevation, and the list of upcoming flyovers (direction, elevation, duration).
- Scene trigger
pass_starting : triggers just before a visible flyover — perfect for a « go look outside! » notification or turning off the outdoor lighting.
- Scene action
next_pass : retrieves the next flyover on demand (voice announcement, etc.).
The calculation (elevation, sky darkness, ISS still illuminated by the sun) is done locally from the public orbital parameters of Celestrak — no API key to create.
Status: preview
This integration relies on two Gladys capabilities not yet published (dashboard widgets and scene triggers/actions declared by an external integration, PR #3109 and #3110). It does not yet install on a published version of Gladys — stay tuned until they are merged.

PS: I will put a real royalty-free image in the widget, I wanted to test vector image generation with Claude
Good evening @cicoub13 and thank you for this external integration
Here is what Gladys shows me via a Telegram notification on my smartphone:
How do I format the text so that the time is in French format (not UTC Zulu Time), and that date and time are two independent variables? Also, would it be possible for the directions to respect Gladys’ display language? The idea is to be able to go from the Telegram notification to the voice announcement.
Ideally, also have information in the widget based on Gladys’ display locale configuration:
And finally, how do I proceed so that a passage is not notified a few seconds before?
Thanks in advance,
Have a nice evening,
Jean
Thanks for the feedback
I just published a new version 0.3.1 which should be available soon in the store (otherwise, you can force the update).
For the widget, it now takes into account Gladys’s language and displays « 28/09 19:49 O - 32° - 5 min »
For the scenes, there are two new parameters:
- Scene anticipation: time in minutes before the transition to trigger the scene (5 min by default)
- Scene language: Gladys does not transmit the language to the integrations for the scenes, so it must be set in the ISS integration. I set French
by default
In the scenes, I removed the start_time variable and there are now three localized variables (language and timezone):
start_date (ex. « Monday, September 28th »)
start_hour (ex. « 19:49 »)
direction_name (ex. « west »)
Let me know if this meets your needs.
Good evening @cicoub13
Thank you so much for this totally useless new gadget, and therefore absolutely indispensable
Mini-me has already prepared a compass and binoculars to be able to observe the ISS during its next pass, and is eagerly awaiting Gladys to notify them
Have a nice evening,
Jean
I love it, thanks for the feedback
Normally, it’s visible to the naked eye, but it’s not easy to see. There are apps that show you the exact trail in the sky.
