Launch of Gladys Assistant 4! 🚀

All help is welcome! Are you familiar with Node.js / JavaScript?

Basically, Gladys Assistant is a Node.js server that interacts with a SQLite database, nothing complicated. The frontend is a Preact.js application (Like React but lighter).

We pay quite a bit of attention to code quality, so there are tests to write but again nothing tricky, it’s learnable

The easiest way to get started is to set up your local development environment:

https://gladysassistant.com/fr/docs/api/setup-development-environnement

Then, you can start developing a small feature to begin.

Don’t hesitate if you need help at any step. You create a post on the forum and we will answer you

Yes, I know Angular (even though it’s TypeScript, I’ve also coded in JS). Preact.js or even React, I haven’t done those yet, but I’ll learn them no problem ^^

To test them, I might sometimes need a bit of guidance

When you say small features, do you have an example?

And I don’t know if it’s been asked, but connecting to a music service like Deezer or Spotify could be interesting, right?

Managing Spotify by handling premium access to play on Wi-Fi speakers linked to the account would be great  Just to set an alarm, etc., it’s very useful

You can check the GitHub issues for Gladys:

For example, a GitHub issue I added today following user feedback:

In my opinion, it’s a small UI bug that should be easy to fix.

Try to find issues like that, or just browse the forum to find user feedback and see if you can help

Or else: find a feature you would like to add to Gladys, and develop it, it might be more motivating

For example, absolutely!

@Alexandre_MAILLOT it’s true that handling a few GitHub issues allows you to contribute to the code.
So we can guide you if needed.

Okay, thank you very much. I will do it as soon as I have time and stable internet, because that’s not the case right now.

Korben’s little post of the day that makes us happy:
https://korben.info/gladys-assistant.html

Thank you @Giulian and welcome to the community

Yes! For those wondering where these articles come from, it’s simply a lot of preparatory work (press release and press kit preparation), then journalist prospecting, and many emails, phone calls to bring these articles to life

Hello hello,

Just a quick note to say that I just discovered the project thanks to the article from Maison & Domotique and I find it just great! You can feel that the design has been well thought out and I can’t even imagine the number of hours behind it
Anyway, I can’t wait to migrate to it, it almost gave me the idea of training in node to lend a hand :joy: Well, I wanted to report the points that prevent me from going into production but I just realized that they are already all in the github  So I will just wait
Anyway, I wanted to tell you bravo and keep it up! :+1:

Welcome to the community and thanks for your message, it’s a pleasure

What are the points? Some developments are listed on GitHub but not necessarily already assigned to someone, so I’m open to any help

Sure, I’d be happy to help in any way I can!

For the points that interest me:

  • Everything related to improving Z-Wave support, as I currently have many non-functional modules - #614 #734 #904
  • Exploiting the history of collected values - #693
  • Retrieving sunset/sunrise from OpenWeather (I think that’s simple) as an option in scene triggers (I’m lost there) - #850
  • The ability to have « shortcuts Â» for scenes on the dashboard (I like opening all my shutters with one click ) - #788

Top  You are welcome to help with these points, and don’t hesitate if you have any questions!

I am continuing my work on acquiring new users, and I wanted to keep you informed about this work that is taking up a lot of my time alongside the development of v4.

Paper Magazine « Programmez Â»

I am in contact with a journalist from the magazine « Programmez Â» to write an article for their February 2021 issue. This is a big article that I have to write myself, so it will take me some time, but it’s worth it. The last paper article I did with v3 was a huge success, specialized press is really the best.

Blog Domo-blog.fr

Today, I contacted Aurélien from the blog https://www.domo-blog.fr/ to see if he is interested in Gladys Assistant and if he would like to talk about it to his readers.

Blog domotique-info.fr

Today, I contacted the blog domotique-info.fr.

I will keep you informed.

There is no secret, the success of this v4 does not only pass through the work around the product, but also on its distribution.

If we code super features but no one knows that Gladys exists, it’s a shame

If any of you know blogs/websites that talk about home automation and could bring us new users, I am open to any contact.

This is great for Gladys’ evolution.
I don’t remember where I saw this, but on certain hardware manufacturer websites, compatibility with this or that home automation box is mentioned.

I don’t know if you’ve already planned this, but it would probably be interesting to also highlight the management of Philips products, Sonoff devices, etc., and to introduce Gladys to manufacturers.

Yeah, even on home automation shops

Hello,

I was also following this « home automation center Â» (if I can call it that ) from afar via Korben’s articles and your version 4 will surely push me into the great adventure of the connected home. The big plus for me is the attractive aesthetics, the displayed simplicity and above all the mastery of the chain (especially for personal data = no thanks Amazon Echo!).

As I haven’t started yet, I’m still looking for my products and I don’t want to limit myself in terms of technologies/materials to buy. While browsing the forum here and there, I understand that V3 had more compatibility (at the cost of instability according to the REX explained clearly in the blog) than V4, is it possible to quickly see what is being integrated/developed? Via the PR on Github?

Thanks and hoping to even be able to contribute my stone to the edifice when I have a bit of gear at home!

Welcome, you will find all the code here:

Yes, of course, to complete the response from @Tlse-vins you can filter the PRs by this tag.

https://github.com/GladysAssistant/Gladys/pulls?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Apr+label%3A"Service+Development"

Thanks gentlemen, for your information, I had to re-filter on « Service development Â» despite a pre-qualified filter in the URL you sent me @VonOx :+1:

Et hop, a new super quality article about Gladys Assistant →
