Meross MS605 & Aqara FP300: mmWave + PIR hybrid presence sensors

Hi everyone!

With Matter, I see more and more home automation news popping up everywhere, even in mainstream tech media. That’s it — you can really feel that home automation is starting to become mainstream :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Two new mmWave presence sensors have just arrived on the market. They run on battery and adopt a hybrid approach:

  • PIR to detect the first movement (low power)
  • mmWave to maintain presence, even if the person stays still

It’s a really interesting combo that combines the best of both worlds: battery life + accuracy.

Has anyone here had a chance to test them?

That’s good news — I was actually looking for this type of product.

However, the Aqara FP300 (€50) is more expensive than the Meross MS605 (€35) (excluding promotions).
The Meross seems to be just Matter over Thread, and the Aqara also does Zigbee as far as I can see.

What do you think about the price difference between the two products, which is not negligible?

Given the price, I’m thinking of going with the Meross which is cheaper for a small Christmas gift

Looking at the tests, we need to check whether one of the two is more accurate or more responsive!

FYI, there doesn’t seem to be very good feedback on the FP300:

I ordered the Meross MS605 which will also be my first full Matter-over-Thread device
