Hello,
I came across this news:

Also, the products should normally be very affordable.
IKEA, once again, is going to offer us a great range, accessible to the general public and reliable.
Twenty-one new Matter-over-Thread devices are arriving, including bulbs from €4.50 and remote controls from €3.50.
It’s this new generation of smart-home users that I want to bring into Gladys ![]()
And this is only the beginning!
My vision is that, in the long run, all commercial products will be Matter; there will be no more non-connected devices.
If you want the details, this article is more comprehensive:
I agree with your vision, but we must not forget the older products that still work very well.
Thanks to Matterbridge it would be possible to solve this problem with their plugin system. In the long term all the older products could go through Matterbridge and no longer require specific integration into Gladys.
Also, there needs to be an integration in Gladys at the same level as Z2MQTT. For now this is not within everyone’s reach.
Good evening,
Beginner question, is it possible to integrate IKEA’s Dirigera gateway to use Matter devices with Gladys?
Exactly! I think Matterbridge could be the key, especially since their plugin system is really very simple.
Yes I agree! A one-click Matterbridge integration in Gladys would be great
Yes, it’s possible! The Dirigera gateway exposes Matter devices that Gladys can control.
I second that !!! ![]()
The only downside (for me right now) with this brand-new Matter range is that you have to buy a Thread gateway ![]()
Yes, that’s true!
One possible option would be to run a Thread gateway in Gladys (with a flashed Sonoff-type dongle), but that might be very technical for something that won’t necessarily be used…
At my home, my Apple TV is my Thread gateway
It should also be made easy to use a Matter USB dongle in Gladys to facilitate its adoption and make Gladys the nerve center of the connected home.
Flashing a Zigbee USB dongle to switch to Matter isn’t that complicated and, at worst, a good video tutorial can do the job. Like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDKCrLI36Ac\u0026t
We’re talking about the same thing @ArMour85, but you’re confusing Matter and Thread ![]()
Matter is an application-layer protocol that only defines the format of the exchanges.
Thread is a radio protocol.
You’re talking about a Thread USB dongle.
That could be added to Gladys, but I don’t realize how many people don’t already have a Thread router at home.
I even wonder whether, in the long run, ISPs’ internet boxes will become Thread routers!
For example, I don’t have a Thread router ![]()
For now, on the French market the Thread routers:
Normally yes!
Yes, I agree, my previous remark was more for the case where a device you already own (ISP box, Wi‑Fi router, smart speaker) would be a Thread router.
I wonder if in a few years, everyone (even you :D) won’t have a Thread router without even knowing it.
But if the need arises, we’ll look into developing a Thread router integrated into Gladys.
I don’t have a Thread router at home either. And yet, I often tell myself that I already have tons of connected devices ![]()
I think it’s important that Gladys can also route Thread via OpenThread to avoid being dependent on an external device managed by a GAFAM company (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft) or on an ISP-provided internet box that isn’t always properly updated. Moreover, from a privacy standpoint it’s not great, whereas that’s one of Gladys’ core principles.
