External integration - GE Appliances (SmartHQ)

Hi everyone!

After Miele and Electrolux, the American home appliance brand: GE Appliances, and all its brands (GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram, Haier US, Hotpoint), connected via the SmartHQ app. None of this is sold here, but for those of you who live in the United States or Canada, the kitchen and laundry are coming to Gladys.

What it does

  • Washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers: status, program, cycle phase, remaining time, door, alerts (rinse aid, drain…).
  • Ovens and stoves, cavity by cavity: status, temperature reached, setpoint, timer.
  • Refrigerators: temperatures, adjustable setpoints within the device limits, door, water filter.
  • Window and portable air conditioners: full control (on, mode, setpoint, ventilation).
  • GeoSpring water heaters and Opal ice makers, in read-only mode.
  • Updates in a few seconds, in °C or °F.
  • Two triggers: « GE Cycle Finished » and « GE Appliance Alert », and an action « Pause or Stop a Dishwasher ».
  • A widget « GE Appliances »: what’s running and the remaining time.
  • In French, English, German, and Spanish.

Nothing that heats up is controlled from Gladys: ovens, stoves, and water heaters are read-only, and a dishwasher can be paused or stopped, but never started.

The cool part

The washing machine has finished → « The laundry is ready » sent to the whole family
Fridge door left open → notification and kitchen light flashing
9 p.m. in summer → bedroom air conditioner set to cool at 22 °C

Installation

:warning: Gladys 5.1 minimum.

It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-smarthq: GE Appliances (SmartHQ) connected appliances for Gladys Assistant · GitHub

  1. Enter the email and password of your SmartHQ account, then choose the temperature unit and the language before adding the devices (they are fixed upon addition).
  2. If SmartHQ asks for a verification code, launch « Send Verification Code », then « Enter Verification Code » with the code received by email.
  3. Discovery tab: add your devices.

If SmartHQ displays new terms of use, accept them in the app: the integration never does it for you.

Honest small reservations

  • Cloud only: GE appliances do not have a local API.
  • GE does not provide the oven door status.
  • Washing machines and dryers are read-only: no remote start.
  • Microwaves, cooktops, and hoods are not yet supported, and program names remain GE’s, in English.
  • Developed without the hardware. I verified from home that the connection to the real SmartHQ service goes as far as the proper refusal of a fake account, but nothing has run on a real GE appliance: your feedback is welcome.
