Hi everyone! ![]()
I’ve already done the UniFi Network integration, but it was missing its sister for those who have Ubiquiti cameras: UniFi Protect. It’s the 2nd most used camera integration in Home Assistant, and it didn’t exist in the store. It goes through the official API of the console, locally, without a Ubiquiti cloud account.
What it does
- Cameras: the image (refreshed regularly, on each detection, and on demand), online or not, motion, and smart detections person/vehicle/animal/package (only those your camera can do).
- Doorbells: the doorbell press.
- Floodlights: turn on, return to their mode, motion detection.
- UP-Sense sensors: opening, temperature, humidity, brightness, motion, water leak, battery, depending on how they are placed.
- Two scene triggers: « object detected » (filterable by camera and type: person, vehicle…) and « doorbell rung ». They go off once the fresh image arrives in Gladys, so the notification has the right photo.
- Two scene actions: refresh a camera’s image, and change the message displayed on the doorbell.
- A « Protect » widget: online cameras, detections from the last 24 hours, and the latest detections with their image.
- An action that gives you the RTSP address of a camera, to paste into Gladys’s « RTSP Camera » integration for the video stream.
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
The cool thing
Person detected in front of the garage at night → notification with the photo and the floodlight turning on
Doorbell rung → the visitor’s photo on the phone, and the doorbell displaying « I’m coming! »
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum, and a console with a recent version of Protect (Protect 6 or newer, which has the « Integration » API).
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-unifi-protect: UniFi Protect cameras, doorbells, lights and sensors for Gladys Assistant, local Integration API · GitHub
- In the UniFi console: Settings → Control Plane → Integrations, create an API key.
- In Gladys: the console address and the key. The console has a self-signed certificate: check the option to accept it (it is disabled by default, on purpose).
- Test the connection, then the Discovery tab to add your cameras and sensors.
Honest small reservations
- Developed without a Protect console (I don’t have UniFi cameras): everything was tested on real Protect responses, taken from the tests of the
uiprotectlibrary from Home Assistant. Your feedback is welcome, especially on detections and the doorbell. - The official API does not allow enabling recording or cutting off notifications: these actions do not exist.
- The video stream goes through Gladys’s RTSP integration, not through this one.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Ubiquiti.
