I need your help: What do you think of Gladys Assistant 4?

Excellent news!

Hello, thank you for your reply!

No, not at all, thanks for the tip :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

For the moment I haven’t needed it, my installation is brand new!
But I had thought about it when I was looking at the possibilities on the scenes side

A possibility to store a value, a state in the scenarios. A kind of variable
But it’s a bit the same as virtual devices after all

Yes, exactly, just a « cleaner Â» method would be nice in the long term

I’ll upvote that right away

Ok I see! What would you use it to store exactly? Tell me about your personal case!

I tested yesterday and indeed an RFXCOM integration is present, everything connects well to my USB key etc. but I didn’t understand how to send commands and identify my devices.

In any case, it seems to be the troubleshooting solution, even if I prefer when everything is integrated into the same software.

I will do more in-depth tests soon.

Thanks

Thank you to everyone who gave their opinion in the survey!

I posted the results (anonymized) publicly on this post if you’re interested:

Installed cleanly yesterday with some devices so I can give you better feedback

Missing therefore:

  • Alexa
  • The mobile app (if I understood correctly, you need Gladys Plus)
  • The rfxcom (not rflink so it doesn’t work with the ongoing development) (node red but I haven’t pushed the tests yet)
  • Meross (I saw a development on the forum but it seems to have been abandoned
)
  • More complete scenes (if
 then
 otherwise
)
  • Better zwave management (ex: Zipato « Mini Keypad Â»)
  • Better zigbee management (not the battery of my devices
)
  • More advanced customization in the dashboards (creation of a personal card with the choice of any device) (ex: to gather all my shutters from each room in a card)
  • The calendar schedule on the dashboard

What I like:

  • Reliability and stability (reboot several times etc everything resets)
  • The nice interface ++++
  • The simplicity
  • The made in french
  • Simply everything that has been done!

I like less:

  • The lack of fragmentation of the Plus subscription (I currently pay 5€/month at HA for Alexa/mobile)

Here is my real and complete feedback, I didn’t do enough tests to answer the survey the first time.

Thanks @syper for your detailed feedback!

Okay, this will come quite soon via Gladys Plus.

Yes, via Gladys Plus you can install a PWA that gives you access to your instance from anywhere in the world. It works well

For these two, indeed, you will have to go through Node-RED until someone offers development.

Out of curiosity, what is missing? Concretely, what kind of scene are you unable to do?

I hope this will come with the new ZWaveJS integration!

This is not normal, normally all batteries are managed natively in the integration. cc @cicoub13 @VonOx

We have a feature request here:

You can vote if you want to see this in Gladys!

Can you make a feature request so we can better understand your need? (You can create a topic in the « Feature Request Â» category, this allows us to prioritize developments based on votes)

Thanks!! It’s nice to read that!

On this, I will be honest, I don’t think I will lower the price of Gladys Plus. HA can afford to put such low prices because they do volume, but on the Gladys side we are still very far from making this volume of use, and I don’t even think that’s something I want!

Dividing the prices by 2 means:

  • Having to double the number of subscribers to make the same turnover (and who finances the void until you double?)
  • Even with a doubled number of subscribers, the revenue would be reduced (because costs increase, we are talking about a gateway that handles a lot of traffic including video streams, and for some users it’s a lot of traffic!)
  • It’s multiplying the support by 4 (and the support, I’m the one who does it so it means that I would spend less time on development), because the lower the prices, the more you attract a very heavy public in support (it’s the paradox of the price: those who pay the most are rarely the most demanding customers. The « cheap Â» plans attract customers who complain a lot :stuck_out_tongue: )

So, in the short/medium term, I don’t think lowering prices is the best way to serve the project.

I prefer to support fewer customers who pay a « fair Â» price, and have time to focus on development, rather than lowering prices, and then be overwhelmed with customer support and no longer be available to develop.

After all, what I tell you is not set in stone, everything can change as the project evolves

Thanks again for your super complete feedback!

Oops, I misspoke about the price, the one you proposed is just right based on what you offer, nothing to say about that!

What I wanted to say is to propose a lower subscription with fewer features or even a higher one with more features.

For example, if I understood correctly, in Gladys, the more you have end-to-end encryption that goes through a server? Why not remove it for the lower offer
 Same for backups

In short, the issue I have with this offer is that I wouldn’t use much of what’s included in it.
I manage backups differently, and security at my place is handled via VPN, etc.

Oops, my mistake

But in your case, you do need it for the mobile part, right?

In Gladys, we offer a PWA via Gladys Plus that works like a classic mobile app, but it goes through the servers in encrypted form:

Indeed, I agree with the idea. You are not the first to ask, but for now, I don’t have enough demand to make it worthwhile to implement it, but if more people ask for an intermediate package, why not!

I was thinking mainly about this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gladysassistant.gladys&gl=FR

Is it not connected directly? Is an encrypted server connection mandatory?
Because my configuration allows me to do without it, I have VPN + two-factor authentication with a token.

This app is for v3, with a PWA no need for a native application.

Ah ok so no native app (sorry I’m one of those who prefer a real app)

So mobile is no longer a necessity.
All that remains is Alexa in my case.

Well in any case I think I’ll migrate to it permanently with or without the things I’m missing! I love this ease of having an answer and a French community!

Thanks to all for that.

If you have a VPN tunnel on your local network from your mobile, you can access gladys, just add it to the home screen with chrome. Like an app. (No need for Gladys Plus but you have to manage security yourself)

This is what it looks like (I mainly use it on mobile)

Indeed, it’s the app for v3! It’s time for me to deprecate it because it’s confusing, that’s true

Awesome  Don’t hesitate if you have other questions!

Yes, I would do that. Thanks for your very clear response

@pierre-gilles Yes, I fell into the trap

Hello, thank you for taking some of your time

Actually, my setup currently consists of controlling lights with a motion sensor and also a switch.

Motion OR Switch → Light

However, as a switch, I use a remote control (Philips) that does not return a switch but acts as a button.

So to do what I wanted, I needed to store a state that would change with each press.

In the end, I created a « virtual Â» device with the MQTT service and it works very well.

But it’s true that in the long term, a service dedicated to virtual devices might be more practical.

Otherwise, I wanted to thank you for the work done on Gladys by you and then the contributors, it’s really great!

@pierre-gilles, I watched your Node-Red tutorial and it seems a bit complex for my level. Oh well, I’ll wait for the 433 integration to move to Gladys 4.

By the way, I restarted my RPI that contained the installation (which is indeed on 4.6 and configured with my Gladys Plus account) but I can’t access it from the address: https://plus.gladysassistant.com/
It says that « My Gladys instance is not connected to the Gladys gateway. Â»

@PhilippeMA, I also couldn’t see the content of my camera linked via RTSP. I even tested it locally, opened a port redirecting to port 554 of the RPI on the box
 nothing works.

You definitely shouldn’t do that, your access issue is related to Gladys Plus

Your local instance doesn’t seem to be connected to Gladys Plus (see /dashboard/settings/gateway)

Is the Pi well connected to the internet? Do you have other Gladys instances connected to Gladys Plus running? (One account = one Gladys instance)

@VonOx, I removed the port opening.. tested only for cam access.
My instance is well connected to the Gladys Plus account with user activation.

I even have the red button « disconnect your Gladys Plus account Â» at the bottom.
@pierre-gilles, no other instances in progress.. the old V3 that is still running and this RPI in V4 test. It seems well connected to the internet because I have the update of the weather module.
Could the version of the RPI be the cause? I think it’s a V1 and it really struggles to display the pages and modules..
