This post is mostly for those who are skeptical about the Gladys project.
If you’re wondering why you should choose a giant like Amazon, Google, or even Apple to manage your home, remember one thing: you will depend on a third party. And this third party is not infallible, no matter how big it is (in addition to taking your personal data).
Just look at yesterday’s massive Google outage, which lasted over 45 minutes.
This was followed by a series of tweets detailing various « daily » problems that were quite amusing to read. Lights that won’t turn on, connected devices that « don’t work » anymore, and so on.
Beyond this outage, it’s in moments like these that we realize our dependence on an external company that « provides » us with control over our own home.

The question of an independent system like Gladys becomes much more obvious because even in the event of an internet outage, your local network is still present. At worst, you will lose access to features that use external services like Telegram, but never the essentials.
