Issue connecting Zigbee micro-module

Hello everyone,

I have a small issue that has nothing to do with Gladys, I hope I can post this anyway.

I bought this:

And when I unscrewed my switch where I wanted to test it… I only found two wires.
As a result, I don’t understand how I should connect it / if I can do it!

My electrical skills are close to absolute zero… so I’m stuck ^^
If a kind soul could guide me, that would be great!

Do you want to put this on a wire (between a wall outlet and a lamp)?
If so, you cut and put a cable on N, the other on Lin on the outlet side. On the lamp side, one cable on N and the other on Lout
In a wall, it’s the same. You probably need a small piece of wire to go from the module to the outlet

I would like to put it behind the wall switch that controls my ceiling light.

So yes, in the end I will need to add 2 wires (I will do the test this weekend) and I will come back to say!

Thanks @GBoulvin

Think about cutting the power first

I already spotted the fuse  thanks for this essential advice!!

Hi @guim31,

If you want to install this module behind a switch but there are only 2 wires, it means there is no neutral wire coming in. If you cannot run an additional neutral wire from the panel, unfortunately, you will not be able to install this module.

You must not use the neutral from a nearby outlet, which, according to standards, must be separated from the lighting circuit (1 circuit breaker/fuse per lighting circuit, 1 per outlet circuit).

However, check behind the junction box to see if the wire going to the lamp passes with the neutral (this is often the case but not always). You can use this neutral (by cutting it in the middle and connecting the 2 wires to the Nin and Nout of the module as indicated in the diagram by @GBoulvin.

If this is not the case, there are modules without a neutral (Zigbee, I don’t know if there are any in Wi-Fi).

Ahhhh there it is, that answers my question! I thought something was missing in my setup.

I’ll check in the partition to see if something is going to the lamp.

And if I don’t have a neutral, I’ll try to find a model without a neutral compatible with Zigbee2mqtt :+1:

Thanks @Terdious!!

Despite your help and after various attempts… I couldn’t find a neutral in my wall behind the flush-mounted box… so I’m screwed!!

On the other hand, I can’t find a neutral-free Zigbee micro-module on AliExpress. It must be said that it’s sometimes a bit of a mess on that site. Does anyone have a reference to give me? The cherry on top would be something compatible with Zigbee2mqtt ^^

Small off-topic: I’m selling at a good price 4 Zigbee micro-modules (see first post) if a buyer is found on this forum, before I put them on Leboncoin!

Regarding your lighting, do you only have two wires?

You still have one solution: connect the module behind your lamp and leave the switch on ‹ on ›.

Then, you connect the wires behind the switch to each other, remove the old switch, and install a small ZigBee battery-operated switch…

Unless you have access to where your neutral is diverted to the switch.

Don’t you have an accessible junction box?

Yes, I only have 2 sons, I’ve looked everywhere ^^

Unfortunately, I didn’t find a junction box.

For the technique of the switch always ON with another Zigbee switch in addition, it’s not ideal, and my WAF would take a hit! Haha
And I also want all the switches in my house to be uniform.

Isn’t this what you’re looking for?

I was implying that the ZigBee switch would replace the other one in the short term, until the controller arrives… And if you’re aiming for uniformity, you might as well put Yapluka everywhere

I admit that I’m also looking for a solution to adapt my installation, and this is the least worst solution I’ve found for lighting at the moment… Monofilament wires are known to ‹ whistle › slightly at the level of the capacitor to be added, and with my sensitive hearing, I dare not take the risk

Generally, old installations don’t have a neutral (less copper  welcome to the club)

Here’s some information I wasn’t aware of…!
And well, I’ll tell you that!!

I much prefer to keep my Legrand switches, I find them very good  so I’m going for a micromodule.

No, I only use those for my roller shutters, for the lights I keep my classic switches  but thanks!

Ehhh yes… too bad for me

PS: I think I found it!

I’m bringing this topic back to say that I received the GIRIER micro-module today (I only ordered one to test it) and it works perfectly!!!

Interesting!

No whistling or LED flashes?

Easy to install/pair?

No whistling (or maybe I’m old and I can’t hear that frequency anymore) and I had no flash from my light: I use an aqara bulb (Aqara ZNLDP12LM control via MQTT | Zigbee2MQTT)

Super quick installation, I couldn’t believe I succeeded on the first try haha

Pairing: press the button for 5 sec > recognized within 10 sec max by zigbee2mqtt > I check in gladys > well recognized, everything works!
